I connect to a space through my emotions. A room’s décor and ambiance may be different than mine but the essence it exudes can feel amazing. I get a sense of the person who lives there and feel welcome. I believe that’s because our environment influences our emotions and represents how we connect with ourselves and others.
Over the past 20 years, I’ve developed an approach to design that blends contemporary and vintage styles with classic decorations and natural textures. All of which create a comfortable and beautiful space.
My journey and passion as an Interior Stylist began in childhood. As a young girl, I tagged along with my Mom as she walked through country barns full of antiques. I watched and listened as she explained why “this one item was the right one for us.”
I would spend hours with her as she reimagined rooms and sit alongside her while she chose the perfect fabric to update a “tired” couch, chair or set of drapes. Her innate eye for style and placement made all the difference in our home.
When I was 8, we moved to a new house and she gave me the opportunity to decorate my bedroom. What fun! First, I picked a colorful shag carpet, next an antique Shaker bed, then a monochromatic wallpaper with shapes that looked like bubbles. And then there were the French closet doors – a blank canvas for painting colorful butterflies.
It was my private haven to welcome my friends – and my bedroom was the place everyone wanted to be. What I’d carefully crafted, was a friendly place – an outward expression of my innermost self.
My Mom formed my passion for taking a space and transforming it to something truly special. A space with a soul – somewhere to feel welcomed, relaxed and comfortable.
